May 9 is not just a date on the calendar; it is the anniversary of an idea that changed the course of history.
Seventy-six years ago, with the Schuman Declaration, Europe chose to replace battlefields with negotiating tables, turning geographical proximity into a concrete solidarity.

Why do we celebrate?

Today we celebrate a Union that, despite its challenges and complexities, remains the greatest experiment in democracy and peace in modern history.
We celebrate the freedom to be, to travel, study and work across an entire continent without borders;
the strength of diversity, because our different languages and cultures are not obstacles but our greatest asset;
a community of destiny still in the making: from protecting the planet to digital sovereignty, we face together challenges that no single State could overcome alone.

The Europe of the future

This year, our gaze is turned forward. Celebrating Europe today does not mean ignoring the limits of the European Union or giving up on changing it. Quite the opposite: on May 9 we call on national and European political leaders to take up, with courage and responsibility, the path that leads to completing Europe’s unification process through the creation of a true European Federation
